Poland - Krakow

Krakow has had its share of conflicts and invasions. The Swedish wars in the 1600s left the city impoverished and with the Russians in power. For most of the 19th Century the city was controlled by Austria. In 1918 Kraków was returned to Poland, only to be taken by the Germans at the beginning of World War II.
